Doing the Happy Dance!!!

The Girls!
They are waiting for Momma to get ready
to take them out to play in the
SNOW!
We got a bunch on Thursday morning.
Photos will be posted this weekend.
We had fun!
(Rachel set this up. I was getting things together and she went over and sat by Sheena and put her arm around her and said,  "Rachel hug Shee-Shee.
Take pictures, Momma, please."
Oh, yeah!)

So...we are doing a little Happy Dance in our house today! Exactly two weeks from that awful day at the Veterinary Clinic...Sheena's PCV blood test came back at 32%! Awesome!!! To Mommy's relief, and Sheena's as it may mean I'll stop sticking my fingers in her mouth to check, her gums (mucous membranes) are PINK again too! They were so pale (anemia) then yellow (jaundice) and it was getting more and more frightening to check them. We had to watch closely in case she needed a blood transfusion.  It looks like the prednisone and her body are doing what they should be in response to treatment. Yay!

We do not have to go back until Monday. They will be doing the whole spectrum of blood testing to see how all her numbers are compared to two weeks ago. They also need to make sure the prednisone is not hurting her in some way as I guess it is pretty powerful stuff. They still do not know what the underlying cause is, so they may run some of those tests again too. Then we'll take it from there. I know the goal is to wean her off of the prednisone and put her on a different drug that is less harsh on the body.

She is acting much like her old self except MORE demanding. This dog just wants to eat everything she can get her mouth on! She is stealing food from Rachel left and right. Our non-barker is barking at us constantly now..."Woof! Get me water!", "Woof! Feed Me! Feed Me! Feed Me!", "Woof! Take me outside!", "Woof! Be at my beck and call!"...so demanding! We really aren't complaining though. We are so grateful that she is still with us. So grateful. I was even telling her how much I love her, while wiping her paws,  after standing outside in the freezing cold weather at 3am this morning cause she needed to pee! Yep, we love her bunches:). Not "out of the woods" yet but definitely getting closer to the "clearing"!

Shee-Shee Update!

One of my favorite photos!
The Da-Da multi-tasking
to give the Momma a break!
Yep, he's pretty terrific!
January 2009
Rachel ~ 9.5 months
Sheena ~ almost 7 years old

Now for a little update on our fur-baby for our friends and family members checking in! Sheena's PCV blood test was at 28% today! Awesome! Keeps going up! Have to go back again on Friday. Blood is less yellow too, so not seeing as much "destruction" of cells from what I understand:). Infectious disease tests all came back fine. We were kind of hoping they'd find the underlying cause there, but sometimes they just don't know. And...it is almost like having a newborn back in the house! The prednisone has her getting us up every few hours to eat/drink and or go outside during the night! Yikes! Okay, so the newborn wouldn't have us taking it outside at night, but you know what I mean:)...We'll take this over her being sick any day though...Thanks for checking in and the continued best wishes for our pup...

Our Furry Little Fighter!

I am happy to be writing that Sheena's red blood count is continuing to improve! We have been taking her in for her PCV blood test every day. She has gone from 20% to 22% to 25% to 27.5% since last Wednesday or Thurday! Very encouraging. She is a little less "yellow" too! (we want pink!) Her energy is increasing which is good to see. I got a little teary-eyed last night when Frank came home from work. She was so excited, wagging her tail and going to greet him. Reminiscent of "old times". So good to see her like that. Getting her medicine into her twice a day is pretty easy as she acts like she is starving ALL the time. That part makes me a little sad as we cannot just keep feeding and feeding her. Oh, and thirsty! My goodness, she is drinking gallons of water. Of course that means we are going outside more:). It's all okay...just want her to keep improving and to beat this thing called IMHA!

Just a few more pictures of the girls
from the past couple of years.
I have possiby posted them before as they are some of my favorites...

Just sharing...
Hug!
Munching on an apple...
Snuggle!
Just one of Mommy's favorites from a trip to the park.
